Our Mission
ZakatEasy was created to provide Muslims worldwide with an accurate, easy-to-use, and Islamically-compliant Zakat calculator. Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, and fulfilling this obligation correctly is a serious spiritual responsibility.
Our goal is to make Zakat calculation accessible to everyone — whether you are calculating Zakat for the first time or an experienced Muslim looking for a quick, reliable tool. We believe that Islamic financial literacy should be freely available to all.
Why We Built ZakatEasy
While several Zakat calculators exist online, many are either overly complex for beginners, require account creation, or are cluttered with excessive advertisements. We saw an opportunity to create something better:
- Free forever: No premium tiers or paywalls. Zakat calculation should never cost money.
- No signup required: Use the calculator instantly. We do not require any registration or personal information.
- Privacy first: All calculations are performed in your browser. Your financial data is never sent to or stored on any server.
- Simple and clear: A clean, modern interface that is accessible to first-time users.
- Islamically referenced: Every calculation methodology is backed by Quranic references and scholarly consensus.
Our Methodology
ZakatEasy follows the widely-accepted method of Zakat calculation used by major Islamic institutions worldwide:
Nisab Threshold
- We use the gold Nisab standard: 87.48 grams (7.5 tola) of gold.
- This is the threshold recommended by the majority of contemporary Islamic scholars and institutions including ISNA, Islamic Relief, and others.
- Gold prices are fetched daily and cached for accurate, up-to-date Nisab calculations.
Zakat Rate
- The standard rate of 2.5% (1/40th) is applied to net zakatable wealth.
- This rate is based on the unanimous consensus of Islamic scholars across all major schools of thought.
Calculation Formula
- Total Assets = Cash + Gold + Silver + Investments + Business Assets + Other Assets
- Net Wealth = Total Assets - Immediate Liabilities
- If Net Wealth ≥ Nisab Threshold: Zakat = Net Wealth × 2.5%
- If Net Wealth < Nisab Threshold: No Zakat due
School of Thought
Our default calculations follow the Hanafi method, which is the most widely used globally. We acknowledge that other schools of thought (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) may have slightly different rulings on certain types of wealth (such as personal jewelry). We recommend consulting a scholar of your school of thought for specific questions.
Islamic References
Our calculations and educational content are based on the following primary sources:
- Quran: Surah Al-Baqarah (2:43, 2:110), Surah At-Tawbah (9:60, 9:103)
- Hadith: Sahih Bukhari (Book of Zakat), Sahih Muslim (Book of Zakat)
- Scholarly consensus (Ijma): The Nisab value of 87.48 grams of gold and the 2.5% rate are unanimously agreed upon by all four Sunni schools of jurisprudence.
